  • 1 stalk celery diced, optional
  • 3 cloves garlic fresh, or substitute with garlic powder
  • 1 cup dry white wine or chicken broth as a substitute
  • 1 cup milk or heavy cream for richness
  • 1 pinch nutmeg for flavor enhancement
  • to taste salt & pepper
  • 0.5 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese or Pecorino Romano as substitute
  • 1 pound ground meat beef, pork, veal, or ground turkey

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery; sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high and add ground meat, breaking it apart until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Pour in white wine, scraping the bottom of the skillet. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes until wine evaporates.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low, add milk or cream, nutmeg, salt, and pepper; let simmer gently for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Allow the sauce to simmer gently for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  6. Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted completely, enhancing depth and flavor.
  7. Serve the sauce over pasta, and enjoy with garlic bread and a light salad.
