- Begin by freezing a block of extra-firm tofu overnight, then thaw it to enhance the texture. Press the tofu using paper towels and a heavy object for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes and soak in vegan chicken broth for at least 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix soy milk, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, cornmeal, oregano, Creole seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black and white pepper.
- In a deep fryer or large skillet, heat enough oil to fully submerge the tofu to 370°F (187°C).
- Dip each tofu cube in the buttermilk mixture, then in the breading mix. Repeat for extra crunch.
- Fry the coated tofu cubes in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
