Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers
  1. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and slice into 1-inch thick pieces to create about 8 cabbage 'buns'.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, and spices. Season with salt and pepper to taste; mix gently until just combined.
  4. Form patties about the size of cabbage slices, slightly smaller to account for shrinkage while baking.
  5. On a lined baking sheet, place a cabbage slice, add a meat patty on top, and cap with another cabbage slice. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until meat is fully cooked and cabbage is softened, adding cheese during the last 5 minutes if desired.
  7. Remove from oven, cool briefly, and serve warm with your favorite toppings.
