Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Combine 1 cup of warm milk with 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast in a bowl and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together 4 cups of flour, 0.5 cups of sugar, 3 eggs, and 0.5 cups of softened butter.
  3. Gradually add the activated yeast mixture and optional citrus zest until a soft dough forms.
Kneading
  1. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
  1. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Shaping
  1. Punch down the dough, divide into three pieces, and roll into ropes. Braid together and tuck ends under.
Final Touch
  1. Transfer to a baking sheet and press dyed eggs into the dough.
Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let loaf rise for 30 minutes, brush with egg wash, and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Cooling
  1. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
