Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Core and slice the medium apples, leave skin on for extra fiber. Place them in the slow cooker.
  2. Pour in apple cider vinegar or water. Add ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, and sea salt. Stir well to coat apples.
  3. Cover slow cooker and cook on low for 5-6 hours until apples are soft and caramelized.
  4. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth. Alternatively, blend in batches in a standing blender.
  5. Return the apple butter to the slow cooker, switch to high heat, and cook uncovered for 1-2 hours until thickened.
  6. Allow the apple butter to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes before storing in airtight containers.
