Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, and sugar until fully dissolved.
  2. Add Flavor: Smash garlic and slice ginger, then add to the marinade and stir gently.
  3. Marinate Chicken: Submerge chicken thighs in marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least 24 hours.
  4. Preheat Grill: Preheat grill to high heat (400°F to 450°F). Clean and lightly oil grates.
  5. Grill Chicken: Grill chicken thighs for about 5–7 minutes each side, ensuring the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Steam for Tenderness: Place grilled chicken in a pot, add reserved marinate, cover and steam for about 10 minutes.
  7. Serve: Let the chicken rest, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, serve with steamed rice.
