- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl with a whisk.
- Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large bowl using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg and vanilla until just combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients until no flour streaks remain, being careful not to overmix.
- Gently fold in chocolate chips.
- Drop about 2 tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
- Optional: Press additional chocolate chunks or sprinkles on top of each dough ball.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes until edges are light golden brown and centers are slightly underbaked.
- Immediately cut into heart shapes using a cookie cutter while warm, then cool on the baking sheet.
