Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and gather all ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla bean paste.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing gently until just combined.
  4. Press the dough into a greased 9x9 inch pan and refrigerate for about 15 minutes.
  5. Bake the crust for 15 minutes until golden brown on the edges.
  6. Immerse dried hibiscus flowers in fresh lemon juice and steep for 15 minutes.
  7. Whisk together eggs and granulated sugar until frothy and pale.
  8. Carefully mix in the strained hibiscus lemon juice into the egg-sugar mixture.
  9. Pour the filling over the cooled crust and bake for 20-25 minutes until set.
  10. Allow to cool completely, dust with confectioner's sugar, and slice into squares.
