  • 1 cup all-purpose flour whole wheat flour can be used
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed; choose light or dark
  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats rolled oats can be used
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • 1/2 cup cold butter cubed; vegan butter is a substitute
For Serving
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream optional garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples, then toss them with sugar and half the cinnamon.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 13x9-inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients for the crumb topping.
  5. Cut the cold butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes until the topping is golden brown and apples are bubbly.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
