Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour can substitute with 1:1 gluten-free flour
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa Powder use unsweetened for best results
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2.25 tsp Active Dry Yeast about 1 packet
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Warm Milk keep it at 105–115°F (40–46°C)
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, melted can swap with coconut oil for dairy-free option
  • 1 Large Egg for vegan, use flax egg (1 tbsp ground flax + 3 tbsp water)
  • 2 tbsp Red Food Coloring or 1-2 tsp beet powder for a natural alternative
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Filling Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, packed
Frosting Ingredients
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened or vegan cream cheese
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk substitute with plant milk if needed
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract for frosting

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Warm the milk to about 105–115°F (40–46°C) and sprinkle the yeast over the surface. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Add the foamy yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla. Mix until a rough dough forms.
Kneading
  1. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Shape into a ball.
First Rise
  1. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Rolling and Filling
  1. Punch down the risen dough. Roll into a 12x16 inch rectangle. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon, roll tightly, seal seam, and slice into 12 pieces.
Second Rise
  1. Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), then bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until slightly springy.
Frosting Preparation
  1. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth for the frosting.
Frosting the Rolls
  1. Cool the rolls for 5 minutes after baking, then drizzle frosting over the top.
