Dough Preparation
- Warm the milk to about 105–115°F (40–46°C) and sprinkle the yeast over the surface. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Add the foamy yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla. Mix until a rough dough forms.
Kneading
- Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Shape into a ball.
First Rise
- Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Rolling and Filling
- Punch down the risen dough. Roll into a 12x16 inch rectangle. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon, roll tightly, seal seam, and slice into 12 pieces.
Second Rise
- Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), then bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until slightly springy.
Frosting Preparation
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth for the frosting.
Frosting the Rolls
- Cool the rolls for 5 minutes after baking, then drizzle frosting over the top.
