Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 15x10-inch or 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a microwave-safe bowl, then cool for about 10 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  4. Combine the melted butter with 3/4 cup of light brown sugar and 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, then mix in 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  6. Press the cookie dough into the prepared baking pan and sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips over the top.
  7. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool in the pan for about 30 minutes before slicing into squares.
