Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add chopped onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
- Add 1 pound of ground beef (or lamb) and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring frequently until browned.
- Lower the heat to medium and stir in 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, and 2 tablespoons of flour. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Slowly pour in 1 cup of beef broth, add 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of salt. Allow the sauce to thicken for about 1 minute.
- Stir in 2 cups of frozen mixed vegetables and heat for another 3 minutes until warmed through.
- Pour the meat and vegetable mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Layer frozen tater tots on top of the meat filling, covering completely.
- Bake uncovered for 40 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
- Turn on the broiler for an extra 2-3 minutes to enhance crispiness.
