  • 1 lb Ground Beef or ground turkey/chicken
  • 6 slices Bacon or turkey bacon/pancetta
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese or nutritional yeast for vegan
  • 1 cup Sour Cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise omit if desired
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream or coconut cream for dairy-free
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 3 large Eggs acts as binder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Mustard

  • 2 tbsp Sliced Green Onions or chives

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch casserole dish.
  2. In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel to cool.
  3. Sauté the chopped onion in the bacon fat for 5 minutes until translucent, then add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat and season with salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, eggs, and heavy cream until smooth.
  6. Layer half of the beef mixture in the greased dish, followed by half of the cheese and half of the creamy mixture. Repeat layers.
  7. Sprinkle crumbled bacon on top before baking.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until set and bubbly.
  9. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with green onions before serving.
