Preparation
- Trim the tops and bottoms off the small onions, then slice a deep crosscut pattern into each onion about 1/4 inch apart.
- Rinse the cut onions gently to remove loose layers, then place them in a bowl of iced water for at least 30 minutes.
- In one bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, paprika, and salt. In another bowl, place your bread crumbs.
- Remove the soaked onions and shake off excess water, then dredge them in the flour mixture, followed by the bread crumbs.
- Preheat air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for about 5 minutes, then place coated onions in the basket without overcrowding.
- Lightly spray the onions with oil and air fry for 12-18 minutes until golden-brown and crispy.
- Remove from the air fryer and let cool slightly before serving with your favorite dipping sauce.
